Staff Software Engineer - Trust and Safety

Staff engineering role setting the technical direction for the platform that detects, prevents, and responds to harmful behavior across Bumble, Bumble For Friends, and Badoo. What you'd do

• Guide technical direction for the Trust & Safety platform spanning detection, moderation, enforcement, and appeals.
• Lead design of distributed systems for signal ingestion, ML detection, enforcement workflows, and investigation tooling.
• Drive cross-team migrations, including moving safety systems to cloud-native services on GCP.
• Create shared APIs, schemas, and event contracts with governance to keep dozens of services consistent.
• Partner with Product, Data Science, ML, Policy, Legal, and Operations on obligations like the DSA and UK Online Safety Act.
• Build paved-road tooling such as service templates, shared libraries, and CI/CD for Trust & Safety engineers.
• Drive adoption of AI-assisted engineering tools and shared agents with responsible review of outputs.

What it asks for

• Deep experience operating high-scale distributed systems in Go, Kotlin, Java, or similar.
• Record of steering platform-wide system changes or tool adoptions that touch many teams and services.
• Understanding of event-driven architectures and decision systems including rules engines, ML model serving, and human-in-the-loop review.
• Experience with cloud-native systems on GCP, AWS, or similar, including Kubernetes, IaC, and CI/CD.
• Strong AI fluency with modern AI-assisted engineering tools and building agents or LLM-assisted review.
• Experience in T&S, integrity, anti-abuse, fraud, or risk at scale (preferred).
