The role, in T&S terms

Written by the T&S Network from Unitary's posting.

Product-focused software engineering role at Unitary, which builds custom operations agents called Virtual Agents that complete workflows directly in customer tools for midmarket firms in commercial insurance, marketplaces and primary healthcare. The engineer productises services, refactors existing tooling, and connects the machine learning, product and platform engineering teams.

What you'd do

  • Bring new products to market, including productising the combined service and product offering.
  • Re-imagine and refactor existing services and tooling so they scale beyond the current client base.
  • Handle technical problems that customers and internal staff report, and fix them.
  • Lead or contribute to post-mortems after SLA breaches, identifying root causes and preventive fixes.
  • Operate the AI decision engine to improve automation accuracy.
  • Adjust customer workflows when requirements shift, checking scope and timelines with customer success.
  • Write and maintain runbooks and internal tooling for agent operations teams.

What it asks for

  • Expert Python development experience and production-grade code.
  • Experience bringing products to market, ideally taking a product from 0 to 1 or productising a service.
  • Track record of reworking systems and tooling so they hold up as volume grows.
  • Hands-on use of AI coding agents such as Claude Code or Codex.
  • Champion of solid engineering practices, standards and team culture.
  • Still building hands-on and planning to keep doing so for at least 12 months.
  • Startup or small team experience, plus AWS, Kubernetes, Temporal or MLOps (preferred).

Worth knowing

  • Participation in a 24/7 on-call rotation.
