Visa

Visa Inc. is an American multinational payment card services corporation headquartered in San Francisco, California. It facilitates electronic funds transfers worldwide, most commonly through Visa-branded credit cards, debit cards and prepaid cards. Visa does not issue cards or extend credit; it provides financial institutions with Visa-branded payment products that they use to offer credit, debit, prepaid and cash access programs to their customers.

Visa was founded in 1958 by Bank of America as the BankAmericard credit card program. National BankAmericard was renamed Visa in 1976. Visa is the world's second-largest card payment organization, after China UnionPay surpassed it in 2015.

Visa completed its corporate restructuring with the formation of Visa Inc. on October 3, 2007. Its IPO took place on March 18, 2008, and it trades under the ticker symbol "V" on the New York Stock Exchange. In March 2022, following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Visa announced that it would suspend all business operations in Russia.
