Builds and runs the engineering systems behind content moderation, enforcement, and safety signal processing on Discord's platform, which has millions of daily users. The Safety Engineering team develops Osprey, an investigation and incident response tool that lets safety teams act on abuse at scale.

What you'd do

• Own safety infrastructure projects end-to-end, from design through post-launch monitoring and iteration
• Build and maintain production systems at massive scale, taking part in on-call rotations
• Reason about attacker behavior, failure modes, and scale limits while designing systems
• Work with Trust & Safety, ML, Policy, and product teams to define requirements and deliver solutions
• Split large multi-milestone projects into prioritized work streams and manage cross-team dependencies
• Write RFCs, take part in design discussions, lead code reviews, and mentor other engineers

What it asks for

• Five or more years of professional backend or infrastructure engineering work
• Strong Python programming skills; occasional work in Rust and TypeScript
• Hands-on history running distributed, high-volume production services on GCP or AWS
• Strong debugging skills in complex, multi-service codebases
• Excellent collaboration and communication with cross-functional partners
• Background in content moderation, trust & safety, or adjacent problem areas (preferred)
• Experience with ML or LLM integration (preferred)
