Variance builds AI agents that do the investigative work on a risk case: gathering evidence across internal systems, company registries, sanctions lists and the open web, working from first line triage through escalated review, and leaving a cited trail behind every conclusion. It sells into Fortune 500s, marketplaces and regulated financial services. Founded in 2022 by Karine Mellata and Michael Lin, it went through Y Combinator as Intrinsic and renamed after moving from Trust and Safety moderation tooling into fraud, identity and anti money laundering work.
