About Bellingcat Online Investigation Toolkit

The toolkit is a resource for discovering open source research tools. Bellingcat is an independent investigative collective of researchers, investigators and citizen journalists brought together by a passion for open source research.

The toolkit provides regularly updated reviews of satellite and mapping services, tools for verifying photos and videos, and websites to archive web pages, and much more. Most of the listed tools can be used for free. Inclusion in the toolkit does not imply that Bellingcat endorses or recommends a specific tool for investigative use.

How it works

Bellingcat maintains a public toolkit listing hundreds of investigation tools by category (maps and satellites, social media, archiving, transport, people search, image and video verification) with notes on cost, reliability and how Bellingcat's own researchers use each one. It's the reference list T&S investigators start from.
