The role, in T&S terms

Written by the T&S Network from OpenAI's posting.

Builds the safety, quality, and risk operations for a new category of OpenAI consumer devices, covering potential safety incidents, product-quality concerns, sensitive customer escalations, and privacy-sensitive issues. The User Safety & Risk Operations team is building operational capacity for new, fast-moving priorities, defining what gets built and the operating model behind it.

What you'd do

  • Lead device-safety and product-quality operational builds from problem statement through implemented operating model, milestones, and success measures.
  • Set up how high-risk cases get intake, severity ratings, decision authority, escalation routes, closure rules, and post-incident review.
  • Turn product, engineering, regulatory, legal, and privacy requirements into workflows, playbooks, and measurable operating standards.
  • Plan launch readiness, staff training, quality checks, monitoring, and early-life response for new devices.
  • Use telemetry, dashboards, case-management data, and AI tools to investigate issues and improve workflows.
  • Carry critical escalations and cross-functional decisions through to resolution, with written decisions and named owners.

What it asks for

  • Technical and analytical fluency with data flows, telemetry, logs, access controls, case systems, and automation.
  • Track record taking ambiguous work from problem framing through launch and scaled operation.
  • Experience with consumer hardware, medical devices, aerospace, or other regulated physical products (preferred).
  • Experience with device launches, field incidents, repairs, returns, or privacy-sensitive sensor data (preferred).
  • Technical degree or equivalent engineering partnership experience (preferred).

Worth knowing

  • Exposure to sensitive or concerning material; resilience and discretion are essential.
  • Background check required.
