The role, in T&S terms

Written by the T&S Network from OpenAI's posting.

Leads a regional Safety Response team in OpenAI's 24/7 Global Safety Response Operations, the core escalation arm of its product safety operations across OpenAI's products. The team handles the highest-priority user safety, risk, and regulatory escalations that need human judgment and rapid response, and the role owns execution of high-severity escalations in its region.

What you'd do

  • Coach a regional group of Safety Response Analysts to raise performance and keep decisions consistent.
  • Track utilization, meeting SLAs, backlog levels, and quality standards for the region.
  • Serve as first line of escalation and incident lead for the region's most complex, high-risk cases.
  • Work frontline cases yourself, about 20 to 30 percent of time, including investigations and enforcement decisions.
  • Handle regulatory and legal escalations directly alongside the team.
  • Improve workflows, tools, automation, and escalation paths, and surface emerging risks to policy and product.

What it asks for

  • 4+ years of people leadership or senior operational ownership.
  • Ability to write escalation narratives and brief Legal, Policy, and leadership during incidents.
  • Comfort using data, tooling, and automation to improve quality and decisions (preferred).

Worth knowing

  • 24/7 operation with rotating nights, weekends, and holidays on a leadership on-call model.
  • Requires calm leadership during incidents, spikes, and regulatory or reputational events.
