The role, in T&S terms

Written by the T&S Network from Apple's posting.

Leads the Quality Platform Engineering function inside Apple's Responsible AI team, which gives Apple Intelligence engineering teams fast safety signal before code merges and extends safety testing coverage to every hardware platform and form factor Apple ships. The role is there to connect pre-merge testing with product evaluations and post-ship insights so findings turn into engineering decisions.

What you'd do

  • Build and grow a team across test engineering, applied ML, and platform expertise, shaping its culture from the start
  • Report pipeline health, coverage, and findings to non-technical stakeholders and represent the team at safety sign-off
  • Decide which features, platforms, and form factors get coverage, and revisit those choices as risk and launch dates shift
  • Drive down test turnaround time, infra cost, and flakiness so pre-merge signal stays useful in the dev loop
  • Extend safety testing beyond iPhone and iOS to other Apple device categories, working with platform teams on hardware gaps
  • Keep the team's pre-merge results consistent with Product Evaluations & Research ship-time metrics

What it asks for

  • At least five years leading technical teams
  • Hands-on work with ML evaluation, production ML systems, or large-scale test and CI infrastructure
  • Strong production-quality coding skills in Python or similar
  • Experience across multiple platforms or form factors, or proven fast ramp on unfamiliar ones
  • Work with human-labeled or crowdsourced evaluation data, reasoning about label noise and rater agreement
  • Responsible AI, AI safety, or trust and safety-adjacent engineering experience (preferred)
  • Generative model evaluation and failure mode experience (preferred)

Worth knowing

  • Occasional exposure to sensitive or policy-relevant content surfaced during testing
  • Team wellbeing support around that content exposure
