VRChat

Social virtual reality platform built around user-created worlds and avatars.

About VRChat

VRChat is an online virtual world platform where users interact through user-created 3D avatars and worlds. Its worlds vary, with some taking the form of social spaces, performance venues, and games. It is available on PC with SteamVR headsets, on standalone headsets such as Meta Quest and Pico, and on iOS and Android, and VR is not required. VRChat is home to over 200,000 groups.

VRChat was created by Graham Gaylor and Jesse Joudrey and is operated by VRChat, Inc. It was first released as a Windows application for the Oculus Rift DK1 prototype on January 16, 2014. VRChat is a remote-first company with a team spread across the globe. By 2025, VRChat staff reported that the platform regularly averaged around 120,000 concurrent users on weekends.

Users upload avatars and worlds built with a Unity software development kit released alongside VRChat. Its Creator Economy lets eligible groups offer subscriptions, and 50% of subscription revenue goes to the group owner.
