Twitch

Live streaming platform for gaming and creators, owned by Amazon.

About Twitch

Twitch is an American video live-streaming service popular in video games, including broadcasts of esports competitions. It also offers music broadcasts, creative content, and "in real life" streams. Twitch is operated by Twitch Interactive, a subsidiary of Amazon.

Twitch was introduced in June 2011 as a spin-off of the general-interest streaming platform Justin.tv. Justin.tv was launched in 2007 by Justin Kan and Emmett Shear, two recent Yale graduates. Twitch's headquarters at 350 Bush Street in San Francisco opened in August 2019. As of February 2020, it had three million broadcasters monthly and 15 million active users daily.

The acquisition closed on September 25, 2014. Under Amazon, Shear continued as chief executive officer of Twitch Interactive.
