YouTube Content ID
YouTube's automated system for matching uploads against rights holders' reference files.
About YouTube Content ID
YouTube Content ID is an automated content identification system made by Google. It is designed for copyright owners with the most complex copyright management needs, such as record labels and movie studios. Content ID comes with complex controls that require ongoing management and advanced knowledge of copyright.
Content ID is available to copyright owners who meet specific criteria, and they must own exclusive rights to a substantial body of original material that is frequently uploaded to YouTube. Many copyright owners prefer to use a third-party service provider to manage their rights using Content ID.

How it works
Content ID scans every upload against reference files from rights holders and applies the owner's policy: block, track or monetize. It's the largest automated IP enforcement system in existence and the model for Rights Manager and third party services. Access is limited to rights holders with substantial catalogs; smaller creators use the Copyright Match Tool.
