About Discourse

Discourse is a community platform made by Civilized Discourse Construction Kit, Inc. The company states that Discourse is 100% open-source software. The company says it started in 2013 with three co-founders.

The Discourse homepage says the platform powers more than 22,000 communities. The company says its enterprise offering includes dedicated infrastructure, SLA guarantees, and SSO and SAML authentication. The Enterprise page names OpenAI, Mozilla, and NVIDIA as organizations that trust Discourse.

How it works

Discourse is the modern open source forum. Its moderation model is built around trust levels that users earn over time (new users can't post links or images, regulars can hide flagged posts), community flagging with automatic hiding at thresholds, a moderator review queue, watched words, rate limits, and an AI plugin that runs toxicity and spam classification. You self host or use Discourse's hosting.
