How it works
Coral is an open source commenting platform originally built by the Coral Project (a Mozilla and Knight Foundation effort) and now maintained by Vox Media. Moderation is designed in rather than bolted on: pre and post moderation, banned and suspect word lists, Perspective API toxicity scoring, comment flagging, reader badges, moderator queues with keyboard shortcuts, and a report view of who's flagging what.
You self host it (Node and MongoDB) and embed the comment stream on your pages. It's built for newsrooms and publishers, and it's used by the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal and others.
