About Synthesia
Synthesia is a British artificial intelligence company based in London that develops synthetic media-generation software and creates AI-generated video content. Its platform is most often used by corporations for localized communication, orientation and employee training videos. Users can make videos with AI avatars and voiceovers in 140+ languages.
Synthesia was founded in 2017 by a team of AI researchers and entrepreneurs from Stanford, Cambridge, UCL and TUM. The co-founders are Lourdes Agapito, Matthias Niessner, Victor Riparbelli and Steffen Tjerrild. Its platform has over 2,000,000 users. In July 2025, its new global headquarters at Regent's Place in London was opened by mayor Sadiq Khan.
Synthesia raised $3.1 million in seed funding in 2019. In October 2025, GV led a Series E round that valued it at $4 billion. It rejected a $3 billion acquisition offer from Adobe and chose to remain independent.
