Research program scoring the largest platforms and telecoms on governance, privacy and expression.
About Ranking Digital Rights
Ranking Digital Rights is an independent initiative that evaluates the policies and practices of tech and telecom companies and studies their effects on people's human rights. It evaluates 26 digital platforms and telecom companies. Its work is aimed at policymakers, investors, and advocates. Its main product is the RDR Index, which has run to seven editions.
Ranking Digital Rights was founded in 2013 by Rebecca MacKinnon. Its team is globally distributed, with members based in Europe, Latin America, and the U.S. It is fiscally sponsored by Superbloom Design. The World Benchmarking Alliance stewarded it for the two years before it became independent.
The RDR Index flagship research is co-led by experts at the International Corporate Accountability Roundtable. Independent researchers and activists in more than 40 countries have adapted the Index to their environments.
