About Transparency Reporting Index

Transparency Reporting Index is a tool made by Access Now. It collects transparency reports that cover how companies respond to requests from government agencies and other third parties, and how they enforce their own policies. The TRI aims to make these reports more accessible to the public, human rights advocates, investors, researchers, and other stakeholders.

The index shows a range of tech companies releasing reports, including social media platforms, gig economy companies, VPN providers, telcos, and everything in between. Google released the first transparency report in 2010, and Access Now launched the index in 2014 to compile these reports.

How it works

Access Now's Transparency Reporting Index catalogs which companies publish transparency reports, what they cover (government data requests, content removals, moderation numbers), and how often. It's a benchmark for what to include in your own report and a quick way to find peers' reports for comparison.
