The Commission investigates X over Grok's sexualized deepfakes under the DSA

On 26 Jan 2026 the Commission opened formal proceedings into whether X assessed and reduced the risks of building Grok into X, including sexually explicit manipulated images and possible child sexual abuse material. It also asks whether X should have sent a risk assessment before launching Grok's features, and widens its 2023 investigation of X's recommender systems. Ofcom opened a parallel UK investigation on 12 Jan 2026.
