The role, in T&S terms

Written by the T&S Network from Anthropic's posting.

Payments fraud engineering on Anthropic's payment and monetization surfaces, covering financial abuse that drives fraud losses, dispute rates and card network monitoring exposure. The Fraud Prevention team builds real-time transaction risk decisioning, dispute and chargeback tooling, and detection of monetization abuse across subscriptions, in-app purchases and promotions, while keeping false positives low for legitimate customers.

What you'd do

  • Build real-time scoring that rates transactions at authorization, weighing loss against approval rates and speed
  • Create internal tools that automate chargeback review, evidence gathering and loss reporting
  • Build fraud signals from devices, card issuers, purchase velocity and linked accounts
  • Catch abuse of subscriptions, free trials, promotions and app store purchases
  • Coordinate with finance, support, legal, data science, and outside processors and platform partners
  • Own loss rate, dispute rate, approval impact and false-positive rate together rather than optimizing one number
  • Lead investigations into emerging fraud patterns and build layered defenses that hold up to attacker adaptation

What it asks for

  • Proficiency in Python, SQL and data analysis tools (required)
  • Experience building or operating fraud, risk or abuse detection systems in production (required)
  • Strong communication skills for explaining technical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders (required)
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience focused on payments fraud or risk (preferred)
  • Fluency with payments rails, including card networks, payment service providers, in-app purchase platforms, refunds and chargebacks (preferred)
  • Hands-on work against fraud like card testing, stolen-card use, chargeback and trial abuse, and friendly fraud (preferred)
  • Understanding of fraud loss accounting and card network monitoring programs (preferred)
