About Uber

Uber is an American multinational transportation company that provides ride-hailing services, courier services, food delivery, and freight transport. Its technology matches consumers looking for rides with independent providers of ride services, and also with public transit, bikes, and scooters. It also connects consumers with restaurants, grocers, and other merchants, and connects shippers and carriers in the freight industry. Its offerings include Uber Eats, Uber Freight, Uber Health, and Uber for Business.

Uber is headquartered in San Francisco, California, and operates in approximately 70 countries and 15,000 cities worldwide. Garrett Camp, a co-founder of StumbleUpon, came up with the idea for Uber in 2009. It has coordinated 72 billion trips and delivery orders since its inception in 2010. It has over 202 million monthly active users and 10 million active drivers and couriers.

Uber became a public company via an initial public offering in May 2019. In December 2020, it acquired Postmates for $2.65 billion. Dara Khosrowshahi, the former CEO of Expedia Group, replaced Travis Kalanick as CEO in August 2017.
