Getaround

Car-sharing service in Europe for booking and unlocking nearby cars from an app.

About Getaround

Getaround was an online car sharing service that connected drivers who needed to rent cars with car owners who rented out their private cars in exchange for payment. Users unlocked the cars with an app.

Getaround was founded in 2009 by Sam Zaid, Jessica Scorpio, and Elliot Kroo. In Europe, it listed France, Norway, Spain and Belgium among its locations. In April 2026, it sold its remaining interests in Europe to GoMore, a Danish company.

In April 2019, Getaround purchased the car-sharing platform Drivy for $300 million and rebranded the company as Getaround six months later. In July 2024, its stock was delisted from the NYSE and transferred to the OTC Markets. In June 2026, its board announced a plan to dissolve and liquidate the company.
