About Osprey

Osprey is a safety rules engine and investigation console for real-time event processing at scale. Osprey is built for engineers and Trust & Safety teams who want to explore, test, and integrate it into their platform for incident response and investigations.

Originally developed internally at Discord to combat spam, abuse, botting, and scripting across its platform, Osprey has been open sourced and is developed in the open by the ROOST community to help other platforms facing similar challenges. Discord uses Osprey to quickly detect and remove new types of harm that put users at risk.

How it works

Osprey is the rules engine Discord built to fight spam and abuse in real time, now open sourced under ROOST. Events (account creation, messages, joins) stream in, rules written in a Python like DSL evaluate each one with features computed over history (rates, similarity, reputation), and matching rules emit verdicts your platform acts on. It ships with a UI for writing and testing rules and for investigating why an action fired.

It's built for volume and for engineers who want rules as code with fast iteration.
