LangSmith Evaluation
Evaluation and tracing for LLM apps built with or without LangChain.
About LangSmith Evaluation
LangSmith Observability is an agent and LLM observability platform made by LangChain. LangSmith Observability is framework agnostic and works no matter how you build your agent.
LangChain describes LangSmith as its commercial agent engineering platform, and it was launched as an independent commercial platform for AI observability. The LangSmith SDK uses an async callback handler that sends traces to a distributed collector, and LangChain states that application performance is never impacted by it. LangSmith can be self-hosted inside a VPC so that sensitive traces never leave the infrastructure.

How it works
LangSmith traces every LLM call in an app and lets you build datasets from real traffic, run evaluators (LLM judged, heuristic or human) over them, compare versions, and monitor quality in production. It's evaluation infrastructure rather than a safety tool, but it's where many teams run their safety evals because the traces are already there.
