EU Code of Practice on Disinformation
Voluntary commitments on disinformation, now a DSA code of conduct with reporting obligations.
About EU Code of Practice on Disinformation
The Code of Practice on Disinformation is a framework to address the spread of disinformation, agreed upon by a number of relevant stakeholders. It is maintained by the European Commission, which describes it as a tool through which relevant industry players agreed on self-regulatory standards to fight disinformation. The Code is the result of the work carried out by the signatories, and it is for the signatories to decide which commitments they sign up to.
For very large online platforms and search engines, the Code serves as a relevant benchmark for determining compliance with the DSA, and VLOPs and VLOSEs report every six months on the actions taken under the Code.

How it works
The strengthened Code of Practice on Disinformation sets commitments for platforms and advertisers on demonetizing disinformation, political ad transparency, fact checker cooperation, researcher data access and user empowerment, with a transparency center where signatories file reports. In 2025 it was converted into a code of conduct under the DSA, so compliance now counts toward DSA obligations.
