About Azure AI Content Safety
Microsoft lists Content Safety in Foundry Control Plane as a product for automated image, text, and video moderation. Microsoft's Content Safety page carries the heading Develop AI apps with built-in safety.
The product is described as detecting and mitigating harmful content in user-generated and AI-generated inputs and outputs, including text, images, and mixed media. Microsoft states that the content filtering system inside Azure OpenAI is powered by Content Safety. IWill Therapy used generative AI to create a Hindi-speaking chatbot that provides cognitive behavioral therapy across India. Content Safety models have been specifically trained and tested in English, German, Spanish, Japanese, French, Italian, Portuguese, and Chinese.

How it works
Azure AI Content Safety is a hosted API that scores text and images across hate, sexual, violence and self-harm, each on a severity scale, so you can set different thresholds for different surfaces. On top of the base classifiers it adds prompt shields (detecting jailbreak and injection attempts), protected material detection, groundedness checks for RAG output, and custom categories you train from a handful of examples.
You call it from any language, and it's wired into Azure OpenAI as the default content filter. It's the natural choice if you're already on Azure, and a solid general classifier even if you aren't.
