Idaho's Conversational AI Safety Act applies to public chatbots from July 2027
259days
Until July 1, 2027
S 1297 takes effect
Public chatbots in Idaho disclose they are AI where users could be misled, refer users who raise suicidal thoughts to crisis services, and can't claim to provide professional mental health care. For known minors, they show an AI notice at the start of each session and every three hours, block sexual content, avoid unpredictable rewards, claims of sentience and romantic talk, and give minors and parents privacy tools. The Attorney General enforces it at $1,000 per violation, up to $500,000 per operator.
Build: Check whether your chatbot is a public conversational AI service under Idaho's definition, and ship minor disclosures, crisis referrals and parental tools before 1 Jul 2027.
Who it reaches
It reaches generative AI services with users in the US, at any size. Public AI services that mainly simulate conversation. App stores, search engines and features inside other products are excluded.
Lands on Policy & Standards, T&S Operations, Legal & Regulatory, Engineering and Product.
