Georgia requires hourly AI reminders for minors on companion chatbots from July 2027
259days
Until July 1, 2027
SB 540 takes effect
Companion chatbots offered in Georgia disclose they are AI at the start of each session and at least every three hours, or every hour when the user is likely a minor. For minors, operators block sexual content and romantic role-play, avoid pressure to keep secrets from trusted adults or to stay engaged, offer parental and screen-time tools, check age before any sexual mode, and publish a crisis protocol with 988 referrals and a yearly count. The Attorney General enforces it, with penalties up to $10,000 per knowing violation.
Build: Check whether your chatbots meet Georgia's companion definition, and plan hourly reminders for minors, parental tools, age checks and a published crisis protocol before 1 Jul 2027.
