Platformer

Platformer is an independent publication about AI, social platforms, and the people shaping technology. It combines original reporting, analysis, commentary, and curated links.

Platformer was founded in 2020 by technology journalist Casey Newton. Newton is its founder and editor. At least one free edition comes out every week, and paid subscribers receive at least one additional update each week. As of January 2024, Platformer had 170,000 subscribers to the free edition.

Newton launched Platformer on Substack in 2020 after leaving The Verge. In January 2024, he decided to move it from Substack to Ghost. Before founding Platformer, Newton spent 10 years covering Silicon Valley for The Verge, CNET, and the San Francisco Chronicle.
