About Internet Safety Labs
Internet Safety Labs is an independent, nonprofit 501(c)(3) product safety testing and research organization. It measures privacy and other safety risks in websites and mobile apps. Its work includes open safety standards, product safety audits for technology developers and procurers, and safety research and benchmarks. It also publishes safety labels through a tool called App Microscope, which covers over 1700 mobile apps.
Lisa LeVasseur is its Executive Director and also sits on its Board of Directors. Its funding comes from foundation partners and individual donors, and the Internet Society Foundation and Wrethinking, the Foundation are listed as current partners.
Its research focuses on K-12 students and the educational technology they use. App Microscope displays safety labels for the EdTech apps in its 2022 Safety Benchmark. It also works to develop a common taxonomy of software harms.
