About Dropbox
Dropbox is a file hosting service that offers cloud storage, file synchronization, personal cloud, and client software. It uses a freemium model, with a free account of set storage size and paid subscriptions for more capacity and additional features. Dropbox Business is its application for corporations, and Dropbox Enterprise is its tier for large organizations. It offers computer apps for Windows, macOS, and Linux, and mobile apps for iOS, Android, and Windows Phone.
Dropbox, Inc. is headquartered in San Francisco, California. MIT students Drew Houston and Arash Ferdowsi founded it in 2007, with initial funding from Y Combinator. Houston founded Evenflow, Inc. as the company behind Dropbox, and it was renamed Dropbox, Inc. in October 2009. Dropbox says it has over 700 million registered users. Dropbox filed an IPO in February 2018 to be listed on the Nasdaq.
Dropbox acquired e-signature company HelloSign in January 2019. It announced the acquisition of DocSend in March 2021. In August 2024, it announced the acquisition of AI scheduling tool Reclaim.ai.
